1) The author thought the test revealed he was racist because it said that it took him less time to shoot armed blacks than armed whites. He could be right, but he could have just been able to tell if it was a gun or a wallet that blacks were holding easier than with whites.
2) I think these measure unconscious racism because some people may just associate black people with guns and violence faster than white people. So if a person saw that it was a black man they may have just shot him faster because they associated his race faster and then looked to see if it was a gun or a wallet he was holding.
3) The author thinks that racism is easier to beat than sexism because men have always thought that women are inferior to them and they have made women think that too. The research suggests this is the sports jersey test because it showed that people remembered the person’s sex than their race.
4) This quote is saying that the only reason that women have a hard time running in politics or business is because people are trained to think that they are warm, fuzzy people who cannot be strong and forceful like big leaders are. It is not because men ultimatley hate women.
5) The real problem women face is the fact that it is hard to break the stereotypes that are placed on women. One being that we are only warm, fuzzy people. The other being that strong, powerful women are considered less feminine and aren’t view with proper respect. I think that people need to look at the lives of women more and see that we aren’t warm and fuzzy all the time. Girls talk behind other girls’ backs all the time and spread rumors and all that jazz. I think people also need to see that women can hold powerful, high positions. We are capable of making mature, leader-type decisions that can help run a country or a business.
6) The author thinks that the problem should be confronted by everyone realizing that women can be both “nice and competent” and that people need to try harder not to create that stereotype in their mind. I think the world can do this, I just think that it will take time and that people will need to see more nice, competent women in power to help achieve this goal.

The DSP I liked the most was Marwan, Oliver and Ryan’s because theirs was the funniest and one of the best well made. I also liked Ryan, Zander, Willy and Evan’s DSP because theirs was very creative with the legos, that was very different from many other groups’. I also like my group’s DSP, the whiteboard storytelling was very fun. Even though it was hard at times the end product still looked very cool. I liked drawing the thought bubbles because I thought that made the end product better because it was more engaging and it wasn’t just stick-figures on a white background with words.
I think that race discrimination is senseless. To me it doesn’t matter what your skin color is. I think that living in America is different for some people depending on their skin color. There are many people in this world who look at a person of a different race and immediately make false judgments and then they don’t give that person the time of day, which to me is stupid. I don’t feel weird living with people of different race just because it doesn’t bother me like it bothers other people. I think that the world in terms of race relations can be better. I think that people who discriminate against race just need to let their judgments go and get to know other people and then they can realize that their judgments were wrong.

Exposition: We should start out with all the girls at lunch and they could be having lunch coversations and we would be able to learn about them from what they say. Then they could all say they want to try out for cheer.
Set-Up: here we could have them at tryouts and learn that there are a limited number of spots open which could mean that only two or one of them may make the team. Then one of the captains could come up to one of the girls and say that she will definitly make the team if she convinces her friends not to try out.
Crisis/Climax: The crisis would be moral. The girl would have to face the decision of whether she wants to put her friends down so she can get ahead.
Resolution/Twist: the resolution would be that the girl thinks back and remembers that the captain said that she would make it if she convinced her friends not to try out but the captain never said she HAD to, so she could still make the team. The twist would be that the captain was seeing what the girl would say and see if she made the right decision by not letting her friends down, and that that is what the team is looking for, is for loyal girls to be on the team.

“You can have power over people as long as you don’t take everything away from them. But when you’ve robbed a man of everything, he’s no longer in your power.” – Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn
I agree with this quote. It is true that when you take away everything a person has then they will not respect you and your power because you have taken their life away. All that person will want to do is take away your power so they can get back at you for what you took away from them. An example how and why this quote is true is the French Revolution. The poor people had no food and worked hard everyday while the rich had everything and never lifted a finger. The king and queen never gave supplies to the poor and in the end they poor revolted and killed the king. This showed that when the royalty doesn’t give their people the things they need to survive the people will revolt and the king will be brought down. Another example is in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix when Professor Umbridge starts teaching defense against the dark arts. Professor Umbridge did not allow the kids to use wands in class and she had them learn about other things that did not relate to the class subject. That took away fun class experiences and interesting things to learn about. When her teaching got so out of hand the students decided to form their own club where they would learn about defense against the dark arts and she loses her power over them because they don’t respect the way she teaches. A third example of how and why this rule is true is again in Harry Potter. Most people consider family to be everything they have and when Voldemort killed Harry’s parents Harry wants to get back at Voldemort for what he did. Through the rest of the series Harry is trying to track down Voldemort to kill him for what he did to Harry and what he did to other people in the world. This shows that the evil power Voldemort has over the world does not affect Harry because all Harry wants to do it take away Voldemort’s power.

Joe Berg was an average business man. He had always wanted to be head of HR, but was always beat by some newbie. The upside was that the unexperienced kid would always quit at some point during the year so Joe had many chances to try again. The current head of HR was obviously cracking under the pressure and Joe knew he would quit soon. Joe lay in bed that night envisioning his boss, Kent, coming up to him and telling him he had gotten the head position of HR. The next morning Joe noticed that Rachel, the woman in the cubicle next to him, had been replaced with some high class, hair gelled up guy. Kent came up to Joe and told him the new guy, Troy, was here to get an HR job. Joe was not going to let that happen. That night Joe went home and hired a private detective to follow Troy and get as much information as he could. A week later Joe had gotten the information back from the detective. Troy seemed like a very successful business man who would be very capable of getting the HR position. The next day Joe walked into the staff lounge where Troy was enjoying lunch. Joe told Troy that he would loose the HR position in the blink of an eye and that it was his position. Troy looked back at Joe like he was a lunatic. He then told Joe that he was not in fact a successful business man but a insect inspector. Joe was bewildered. He had gone through all that worry to find out that his competition was an insect inspector. A few weeks later the HR newbie quit and Joe was given head of HR.

I think that some of the laws of power would work and some wouldn’t, or don’t seem like they would work. I think that the “Never Outshine the Master”, “Conceal your Intentions” and the ones about reputation or how others see you would work. The Never Outshine the Master and Conceal your Intentions go together because you would want to make sure the master feels like you are just another worker and you aren’t planning anything to take them over, and since you are trying to take over the master you shouldn’t spill your plans. That also is the same as Always Say Less than Necessary. The laws about getting attention making sure your reputation is guarded and that no one can penetrate it. Get Other to Do the Work For You, but Always Take the Credit is another one that would work because then people would think that you are a fast and efficient worker and when you dump the people that worked for you, you would probably make some enemies which will help you follow law 2, which is Never Put Too Much Trust in Friends, Learn how to Use Enemies. That law, law 2, is one that I don’t know if it will work. It is hard to understand, I get that you would want to do the “keep friends close, but enemies closer” but when the law talks about how an enemy would have more to prove to you makes no sense to me.

It was the day before my mom’s friend’s baby shower and I wanted to look really nice. my friend had this cute white dress that I’ve always wanted to wear so I asked her if I could borrow it. She said I could as long as I returned it the next day. I told her I would and it would be in perfect condition.
The next day I was at the baby shower. It was going great the dress was in perfect condition. I was being very diligent watching everyone’s food and making sure that no one would ruin this dress. I was getting really thirsty and grabbed my mom’s grape soda and took a quick gulp. Then all of the sudden my ran into the back of my chair and pushed me forward. The cup came out of my hands and spilled on the angelically white dress. I rushed to the bathroom with my mom and tried getting it out by dabbing it with water. It wasn’t working. My mom’s friend let me borrow one of her dresses as we washed the old one. The stain came out and the fabric was okay. It was a miracle!
That night I was in my room thinking of whether I should tell my friend what happened or not. I decided I wouldn’t, it was in the past the stain was gone and it would be fine. The next day as I was giving the dress back to my friend this wave of guilt washed over me. I went through the whole school day feeling horrible. I called my friend and told her to meet me by the front office. We met there and I told her exactly what happened. She was upset at first but then she was happy that I tried my hardest to fix it and that I was able to tell her what had happened.
